If your group includes a couple of dedicated fishermen (or women as the ladies seem to always catch more fish than the guys), we now offer combo trips in cooperation with the Lodge at Whale Pass. You could start or end your trip with a few days at the lodge or ask us to create an itinerary which has us traveling in the vicinity of the lodge for a couple of days. The lodge will send out a skilled captain with one of their fast fishing boats to take the fishermen out for the day while the rest of us go looking for whales or bears or just exploring the area with a camera. Give me a call (907) 321-2147 and we can discuss the options!

We are all becoming more aware of the consequences of carbon emissions and the carbon footprint that we create with our activities. For those of our guests who would like to offset the carbon emissions generated by their Alaska Inside Passage cruise, we will be offering an option to buy carbon credits from a nationally recognized organization that specializes in investing in programs which reduce carbon emission, generate alternate energy, or sequester carbon.

We’re still working out the details, but anticipate that the cost will be in the neighborhood of $12-$15/day. This seems like a small additional cost when compared to the cost of a trip to Alaska and to help insure that some of our last remaining unspoiled wilderness remains unspoiled. It has also been suggested that we should place a carbon offset calculator on the site to allow our guest to calculate the carbon used during the travel to and from Alaska. It seems to me however that many travel sites are already offering that options themselves. Any feedback on the issue would be welcome.

As soon as the program is in place (sometime in January we hope), we will place a link to their site on our web site so that you can go and see how your contribution would be spent.

Regards

OK, I guess I need to start writing about what’s new and interesting with the Midnight SUN and our Alaskan Inside Passage charter trips on a more regular basis. This is my first attempt at writing a blog, so bear with me. Probably the most exiting news is that we are investigating the possibility of incorporating some more serious fishing into some of our trips. We would work together with one of the most successful fishing lodges in Southeast Alaska and have one of their experienced captains join us for the week with his boat and take the dedicated fishermen out for a day of fishing while we take the Midnight SUN and go adventuring, looking for whales and bears, or just exploring a new, remote bay or passage. In the evening we all join up again on the Midnight SUN for one of Tony’s spectacular dinners. I need to know if this seems exiting to you, so if you are one of our former guests, or just browsing our site. Let me know what you think!
